One of an artist’s greatest responsibilities is to realize that art builds on the past and carries into the future. My art relies heavily on work of bead artists of the 1800’s, and my passion is to see that the craft is not forgotten, but is practiced and taught, so that this generation and future ones will retain the knowledge of how to create beautiful beaded purses. |
Many of my patterns draw inspiration from vintage purses and I try to re-create similar ones, with modern materials and techniques. But I also create new patterns, inspired by nature, color, and ethnic designs. Most of my purses are bead-knit but some are crocheted. I design most of my patterns. The beads for the patterns must be strung one by one, according to a grid that represents the design. It’s time consuming and precise work but rewarding when the purse is completed.
